This year, Caterpillar updated its enterprise strategy to include sustainability as an area of focus and reported the progress toward 2030 sustainability goals. This sustainability commitment is consistent with the upcoming China Nonroad Stage IV emissions regulations, which advocates the concept of “green” technologies, reduced carbon and environmental protection.  

As an important brand of Caterpillar, the full range of SEM products – wheel loader, soil compactor, motor grader and dozer – have been upgraded to an “F series”, which was officially launched on September 28, 2022. The newly released SEM F series products have upgraded performance features, satisfying key customer needs. All SEM F series products that have been put into production at Caterpillar (Qingzhou) Ltd. are designed to meet the requirements of the China Nonroad Stage IV emissions regulations.

The SEM F series products adopt the design of new generation machine style, tough and stylish, with the following upgraded features.

Wheel Loader – Features a longer wheelbase design, providing improved operational stability and loading capability. The wheel loader also offers electrohydraulic-control countershaft transmission, flexible pilot control and eight-inch LCD screen, combined with a brand-new cab, improving operator comfort and operating efficiency. The Nonroad Stage IV diesel engine with electronic-control high pressure common rail fuel system helps to deliver high performance while meeting the emissions requirements with lower NOX, SOX and particle emissions than the prior series. 

Soil Compactor – Features mold formed engine hood, providing reliability and durability, along with a rear door that offers quick and convenient access to the maintenance and service points. The fully upgraded machine performance and compaction parameters (frequency and centrifugal force), plus the Nonroad Stage IV diesel engine with electronic control high pressure common rail, provide better compaction than previous generations, helping deliver high efficiency and more adaptability in complex working conditions. The soil compactor is also changing from a mechanical transmission to a hydrostatic propel system, offering infinitely variable speed and a soft and stable drive, improving operating comfort.      

Motor Grader – Features mold formed engine hood with left and right large door, making daily maintenance even easier. The implement hydraulic variable displacement pump is directly connected to the gearbox, delivering high driving efficiency, low working noise and an improved machine performance. The Nonroad Stage IV diesel engine includes an economy mode for energy savings. This combined with optimized machine configurations, results in better traction. 

Dozer – The dozer features a reinforced mainframe and one-piece track roller frame, which improves the reliability and capability in severe applications. The standard eight-inch LED screen provides convenient monitoring of machine status at any time. The optimized center of gravity of the complete machine increases stability and ride comfort. The Nonroad Stage IV diesel engine offers enhanced power delivering better traction force and quicker response time, and optimized software improves performance and greater work efficiency at low engine speed.   

The SEM F series products have undergone extensive testing which began in 2020 to ensure continued safety, reliability and durability. After successful field follow programs, the products will be commercially available in China starting September 2022.
